AUSSOM asks Uganda to continue its mission in Somalia

in Kampala, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, accompanied by the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Jacob Marksons Oboth & the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of International Affairs, Hon. Oryem Henry Okello, received the SRCC and Head of AUSSOM, Amb. El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, accompanied by AUSSOM Force Commander, Lt. Gen. Sam Kavuma.

Other senior officials attended the meeting at Office of the Prime Minister – Uganda including Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Uganda Head of Mission in Somalia, H.E. Prof. Sam Turyamuhika, Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Rosette Byengoma, the Chief of Joint Staff (CJS), Lt. Gen. Jack Bakasumba, as well as Deputy Commander Land Force, Maj. Gen. Joseph Musoke Ssemwanga.

Amb. Diene conveyed African Union gratitude to the Government & People of Uganda, for the long-standing engagements to peace #stability & security on the continent and Somalia in particular. SRCC commended the Ugandan women and men who have served, and continue to serve, under AU flag, as the pioneer and a key contributor to AU forces for peace and stability in Somalia.

On behalf of Government of Uganda, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to contribute to the implementation of AUSSOM mandate and strategic objectives in supporting a lasting peace in Somalia.
