AUSSOM Force Commander, Lt. Gen. Sam Kavuma, visited the recently liberated town of Mubarak to assess the combat readiness of AUSSOM and Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) troops following a successful joint operation against Al-Shabaab.
Lt. Gen. Kavuma commended the resilience, bravery, and commitment demonstrated by the joint forces, which led to the liberation of Mubarak and Durasalaam towns. He thanked the AUSSOM leadership, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), the SNAF troops and international partners for their dedication and sacrifices in advancing peace and security in Somalia. The Force Commander also recognised the role of commanders and partners in the planning and executing the operation.
Sector One Commander Brig. Gen. Jackson Kayanja said troop morale remains high and that forces are ready to consolidate gains. Battle Group 44 Commander Col. Owiny Akena, who also serves as the Operation Commander, confirmed that the two towns are now fully under the control of the joint forces. On behalf of the SNAF, Lt. Sayidnuur Abdullah Warsame thanked AUSSOM troops for their support and strong cooperation during the operation.
During his engagement with the local community, Lt. Gen. Kavuma thanked residents for welcoming and supporting AUSSOM and SNAF troops, and urged peace, stability, and socio-economic recovery, while community members welcomed the joint forces for restoring security in the area.
