The Minister of Defence, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, accompanied by the State Minister of Defence, Honourable Omar Ali Abdi, today joined units of the Somali National Armed Forces for iftar, commending them for their dedication in fulfilling their duty to safeguard national security and for enabling the Somali people to observe the holy month of Ramadan in peace and safety.
The Minister expressed appreciation for the troops’ continued sacrifice and commitment to defending the nation, urging them to maintain their efforts against terrorist groups that threaten the country’s peace and stability.
“The Government of Somalia and the Somali people recognise your value and understand the difficult conditions under which you serve. They also know that you stand at the forefront of safeguarding national security. We came here today to express our gratitude to you,” Minister Fiqi said.
The Minister also noted that the day coincides with the 17th of Ramadan, the historic day on which truth was distinguished from falsehood, emphasising that the national forces are engaged in a just struggle to defend the country. He also highlighted recent successes in liberating the areas of Mubarak and Daarusalaam in the Lower Shabelle region.
