Leaders of the West African regional bloc, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), have pledged a united front against military coups, terrorism, and regional insecurity.
The vow came during the bloc’s 68th Ordinary Session in Abuja, following a wave of military takeovers in the region. ECOWAS says it will shift from reactive sanctions to proactive diplomatic and military measures to prevent future takeovers.
The leaders insist that only a coordinated regional strategy can restore stability and safeguard democracy across West Africa.
