The Federal Government of Somalia, in cooperation with the Southwest State Administration, has begun recruiting new troops in the districts of that administration to join the Somali National Armed Forces, with some of the newly recruited forces being specifically selected to join the Gorgor brigades.
​This plan will train local forces to operate in the various districts of Southwest State, enabling them to participate in securing security and taking over the security responsibilities of their areas.
The plan also dictates that Gorgor bases will be established in the administration’s districts, and one Gorgor Battalion will be deployed to each district.
​This step is part of the security transition plan and preparations for the Somali forces to take over security responsibilities in areas currently supported by African Union forces in Somalia.
