The Somali National Army’s elite Gor-Gor Special Forces, operating in coordination with local forces, have successfully conducted a planned security clearance operation in Muuri (N50), Lower Shabelle region, following credible intelligence on the movement of Al-Shabaab militants.
The operation fully disrupted a terrorist plot involving up to ten militants who were attempting to transport improvised explosive devices (IEDs) towards the Coastal Cities like Mogadishu with the intent of undermining ongoing national security operations. Following a brief engagement, the militants fled the area.
During the operation, Somali National Army forces seized fourteen (14) landmines the largest single recovery of mines from an operational site alongside two motorcycles used by the militants for mobility.
The Somali National Army remains resolute in sustaining planned and intelligence-led operations against terrorist groups, with a clear commitment to eliminating the threat posed by explosive devices and ensuring lasting peace, stability, and the safety of civilians across the country.
