IGAD welcomes Sudan’s decision to rejoin it

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) welcomes the decision of the Republic of the Sudan to resume its full participation in the Organisation.

The IGAD Executive Secretary, H.E. Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, described Sudan’s return as a reaffirmation of regional solidarity and collective commitment to peace, stability, and cooperation across the region. He noted that, as a founding Member State, Sudan’s renewed engagement strengthens IGAD’s unity and enhances its capacity to address shared regional priorities.

The Executive Secretary expressed deep appreciation to H.E. Ismail Omar Guelleh, President of the Republic of Djibouti and Chairperson of IGAD, for his leadership and constructive engagement in guiding the process. He commended the Chairperson’s steadfast commitment to dialogue and consensus building in advancing regional cohesion.

 

The Secretariat reaffirmed its readiness to work closely with the Republic of the Sudan in advancing a peaceful resolution of the current challenges and in supporting a secure and prosperous future for the Sudanese people and the wider region.
