The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh, today signed the law establishing the Independent National Human Rights Committee, after both houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia approved the members of this committee.
The President stated that the establishment of this committee reflects Somalia’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of its citizens.
He praised the cooperation between the Parliament and the Government, which was fundamental to the formation and ensuring the legal and religious compatibility of the Human Rights law and the establishment of this committee.
The President of the Republic prayed to God to facilitate the work of the committee members and reminded them of their responsibilities to protect human rights and to strengthen a governance system founded on justice, accountability, and transparency.
