H.E. Hassan Mohamed Ali, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, today received 174 Somali youth who were repatriated from Libya upon their arrival in Mogadishu, following a period of severe humanitarian and security hardship, including detention, abuse, and harsh living conditions.
The repatriation was carried out under the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation as part of a sustained government initiative to assist Somali nationals in distress abroad and alleviate their suffering. The effort builds on the recent visit of H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali to Libya, which helped advance coordination on the safe return of Somali citizens.
The operation was led by the Department of Diaspora Affairs and implemented in coordination with the International Organization for Migration, the European Union Delegation to Somalia, and the Somali Embassy in Libya.
Upon arrival, the returnees received immediate assistance, including medical care, temporary accommodation, and psychosocial support, with reintegration support being arranged in coordination with relevant national programs. The Ministry reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to protecting Somali citizens wherever they may be and to addressing the root causes of irregular migration through expanded opportunities at home.
