Share

Admiral Zeki Aktürk, the spokesperson for the Turkish Ministry of National Defense, stated that four ships from the Turkish naval forces namely TCG Göksu, TCG Bayraktar, TCG Bartın, and TCG Yzb Güngör Durmuş will begin an operation departing from the Eastern Mediterranean and heading to Somalia on March 16.

He said this operation is part of the efforts by the “Türkiye Somalia Naval Task Group” naval forces, which are working to strengthen maritime cooperation between Turkey and Somalia.

Previously, Somalia has hosted at least 3 warships and fuel supply vessels for extracting oil from ships, indicating that Turkey has sent more than 10 warships to Somali waters.

Once the ships arrive and dock in Mogadishu, they will continue toward the Red Sea, where they will protect Somali waters while implementing the maritime agreement between the two countries.
